Carissa Johnson / Sarah Donner / Hooly J Chan & The Wicked Queer Puppet Theater

  • Myrtle 134 Waterman Avenue East Providence, RI, 02914 United States (map)

Carissa Johnson is known for her straight-forward lyrics, driving melodies, and her band’s inimitable live energy. Her musical career began in Boston, Massachusetts and has taken her all across the United States, playing countless shows all over the country since 2016, solo as well as with her band The Cure-Alls (Steph Curran & Nick Hall). She and the Cure-Alls won the New Act of the Year award at the 30th annual Boston Music Awards in 2017, the same year they won Boston’s legendary Rock n Roll Rumble. Her music has been featured in SPIN Magazine, the Boston Globe, Alternative Press, and more. She has opened up for national acts such as TORRES, Fleece, Tōth, Dorothy, Damone, Freezepop, & The Damnwells. Johnson relocated to Brooklyn, NY in 2022 and is currently promoting her latest two singles “Congratulations” (Oct ‘23) and “I Surrender” (Feb ‘24) out on A Diamond Heart Production). She is also a member of grunge supergroup SWIVEL.

Sarah Donner is an alt pop singer/songwriter who has embraced her inner cat lady. Her songs teeter back and forth between playful, nerd core, and ballads, all tied together with bright melodies and driving, energetic instrumentals. Sarah Donner’s music has been featured on Conan O'Brien's blog, NPR, Buzzfeed, i09, Showtime, and CBS. "Sarah Donner and the Sleepy Kitten" and "The Motherf**cking Pterodactyl Song" (co-written with The Oatmeal) catapulted Sarah into weblebrity status with over four million views on YouTube alone.

Sarah Donner is a graduate of Westminster Choir College. After stretching her legs with musical theatre, she picked up a guitar, abandoned her classical roots, and started rocking out (with fantastic breath support). When she is not touring, Sarah Donner fosters kittens, teaches privately, and paints portraits.

Hooly J Chan is a local singer, songwriter and puppeteer. They put an album out this past year called A Worms Wings and they run The Wicked Queer Puppet Theater in Fall River, MA.

The Wicked Queer Puppet Theater collective is a group of creatives and community volunteers! Through the magic of large-scale paper mache puppets, movement, and song; they craft stories that challenge societal norms and inspire a deeper connection with the Earth.
