In 2023, we purchased a basket of Portuguese language 45 RPM records from The Emporium, a second hand shop in Swansea, MA. The majority are signed by the presumed former owner, Tony Sonto. A mix of Fado, pop, folk, and new wave—including a rare 7” from the Fall River area band Capitalists. On Sunday October 5, we’ll be spinning them at Myrtle.
As it happens, this is the 45th birthday of OPEN’s founder, Ben, so playing a few 45s feels appropriate. The first hour will be picks from the archive, then contemporary music by artists living in, or on labels based in Portugal.
